Bongi is off to the USA
Bongi Ndakisa is the founder of the Kwenzekile Community Development Centre in Tsolo and an Ikhala Trust grantee since 2011 and we could not help but ask her to share a little of her excitement on being selected for the YALI.
This is what Bongi had to say: “I’m one of the young African leaders that have been selected to participate in President Obama’s Washington fellowship programme. In South Africa, 46 young people were selected. There are 3 tracks that we will be trained in. Some are going for Public Administration, others for Business Administration and Entrepreneurship and I am going for the Civil Leadership track. We will be scattered across 20 US Universities. I will be in Arizona State University for 6 weeks, then travel to Washington for a 3-day summit that will be hosted by the President. After the summit – 400 of us will return to Africa and the selected 100 will remain for eight week internship. For the internship I will be based in New York City in an NPO called Africa-America Institute. I will be working in the administration and fundraising department as well as assisting in organising a Conference on the State of Education in Africa. The conference will be held on the 9th of September. I will be coming back on the 27th September. When I am back in South Africa, we are all expected to have built strong networks with other young African leaders and together work to build a better Africa.”
Bon voyage BONGI and safe travels!!
